MARCH 2010 LEED CERTIFICATION
A company executive and a supervisor at J. Colangelo and Son, Inc. (JCS) are working towards LEED accreditation. Matt Colangelo, president and CEO, and Bob Zuccalmaglio, construction superintendent, have attended the LEED Green Associate exam prep training offered by the Green Roundtable (that works with the U.S. Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI)). The training took place at the AGC of Massachusetts facility in Wellesley. LEED administers the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Rating System which is a rating system that measures the environmental sustainability of buildings and other construction projects. The credit categories of the LEED program include: sustainable sites, water efficiency, optimization of the mechanical, electrical, and renewable systems. Construction waste management, selection of building materials, ventilation, thermal and lighting controls and toxins in building materials are also considered. Next these JCS personnel will become certified as LEED Accredited Professionals.
JCS is Committed to Environmental Sustainability
These accreditations reflect JCS's commitment to use methods and materials that are designed to protect the environment whenever possible in conjunction with the owner's goals for the project. The training program leading to the accreditation enables JCS to advise their clients about materials and equipment that will minimize their building project's effect on the environment. Many of JCS's clients are in the high tech industry that involves high energy usage. JCS management can endeavor to find more efficient ways of meeting their high energy usage to reduce energy costs. With enough recycled materials and energy efficient equipment the client will also be able to achieve tax credits while reducing energy usage.
